The series are concurrent and never ending, as inspiration has its free will and arrives in various forms in its own timing.
It is about the make-up of me.
An immigrant calling multiple places “home”, laced with traces of different cultural, societal, behavioural, linguistic, historical references.
Is it messy? yes.
Is it beautiful? yes.
It is about the relationship between a person and the world. The extent of the painting representing the “world” surrounding the “person”- although composed of stiff rectangles- has been pushed and shuffled into a semi-organic arrangement, as though the presence of the human figure in the centre has disrupted the rectilinearity of the panels it is drawn upon. Tender grain of the wooden material is preserved and shows through the human figure, further contrasting wth the flat painted space surrounding the figure. The world in this work is imprisoning, heavy and emotionless, appears to be impenetrable at first glance.
Here the figure has caused the disruption even in its foetus posture, showing that with the slightest presence of humanity, a change to the world can be possible. This central human figure(s) can be anybody - it can be you and I.
A quote I always loved, but probably has had several iterations already. It is something to this effect:
“A light is not felt without darkness; it is within the darkest darkness that we seek the slightest of light.”
And we all know, all dark nights end with the break of dawn.
Human expressions are infinitely fascinating.
We all have our unique characteristics and features, but the expressions are universal, a language without words.
Wayne’s life is dedicated to music. He is a musician. He has been performing live music for over 30 years. When he is not performing he teaches music to children. When he is not teaching he is writing his original music. He wants to convey the joy and beauty of music, from past generations to future generations, with such pure passion. Music frees his soul within rules of society we must obey.
In my eyes, Wayne’s “being” is composed of music - I wish to capture his tireless pursuit of better musicianship which has encouraged me time and time again.
someone with amazing vocal, interestingly it was Pat’s peaceful silence I felt compelled to capture
